Post critical incident staff support

The Post Critical Incident Staff Support GuidelineOnly available from a QH networked computer provides a framework to ensure a consistent approach to staff support across our organisation, minimising the harm that may arise from psychosocial hazardsOnly available from a QH networked computer such as exposure to traumatic incidents that occur in the workplace.

The guideline provides a minimum standard for debriefing and supporting staff that can be adapted to meet the needs of each facility.

What is a critical incident?

A critical incident is any significant event, clinical or non-clinical, out of the range of expected experiences that has the potential to overwhelm a person’s capacity to cope.

  • patient adverse event or near miss,
  • exposure to confronting trauma or death,
  • serious workplace accident,

  • occupational violent confrontation, physical threat, or assault.
